A nice feature of PMT would be to allow us to use our own Elastic Search instance.  The benefits here would be to leverage existing infrastructure and also require less resources on the monitoring server.

Mario, Have you tried configuring an existing installation of Elasticsearch server with PMT. The version we ship with PMT is 5.6.3. As long as the version is a close match, you shouldn't have a problem. you should be able to simply not select DataStore component at the time of the PMT installation, and specify the hostname and the port no. for your elasticsearch installation, when prompted. ps.
