Problem Description:
MySQL drivers are no longer shipped? Why is this? This is really bad for setting up apps that use MySQL, one of the most widely used databases in the world. Even the message in the admin is horrible:

The standalone MySQL JDBC driver is no longer shipped with ColdFusion.
Please download it, put it in cf_root/lib folder and restart ColdFusion.

You are making it harder for users to leverage ColdFusion with one of the most widely used databases in the world. Either ship the driver or make it easier for users to install the driver right from the admin. Why not ship with the open source drivers, is this a licensing issue?

Comments:

As I recall this was a licensing issue, however, I think it'd be safe to provide a way for the admin to download and install the driver? In either case, this should be addressed more concisely as a lot of development is still being done with MySQL/CFML (according to the last CFSOTU report, about 45% of respondents indicated they still use MySQL)

We reviewed this requirement but unfortunately we will do be able to do anything here. The decision was based on the guidance we received from the legal team at Adobe.

How about providing from the CF Admin a way to link the user to download the drivers? This way, it makes it easier for your customers? Also, instructing them on WHERE to put the jar files.
