Problem Description: when setting up mail server in cf administrator, no matter how you change the check boxes, the verification of connections fails

Steps to Reproduce: 127.0.0.1 generic or smtp.gmail.com with user and password, as long as you check "Verify mail server connection" check box, you will get "Connection Verification Failed! " 

Actual Result: get "Connection Verification Failed! " message


Expected Result: "Connection Verification Successful!" message

Any Workarounds: Don't know yet. Definitely need to know one.

+1 - I noticed the same issue. If username and password are left blank in CF Admin, and then SMTP Authentication is disabled at the mail server, then CF Admin says connection verification is successful.
