The AWS Java SDK bundled with ColdFusion 11 at /cfInstallRoot/lib/ is woefully out of date. The current AWS Java SDK is at version 1.10.x. Bundling more recent builds of the SDK with new versions of ColdFusion would allow for:
1. Improved security enhancements within the SDK itself
2. Client-side data encryption for cffile calls to S3
3. Exposure of newer AWS services to developers
A developer cannot simply replace the current SDK with a new version in /cfInstallRoot/lib/ as newer versions of the AWS Java SDK are not backwards compatible with ColdFusion's handling of S3 services using the cffile/cfdirectory tags and related functions. That functionality breaks when using newer versions of the AWS Java SDK.
