Problem Description:

Our application server is scheduled for a nightly reboot, and upon restart, the Cold Fusion Application Service fails to start. We have also attempted to use "net stop" and "net start" to bounce the service, but the service does not come back up on its own. The only way we can get the service to successfully start is by manually starting it in the Services GUI.

A primary reason for our nightly reboot is ColdFusion's JavaVM heap space management, especially on a 32-bit platform (necessary for COM object support).

However, we have 3 servers that are suffering from this issue, including a 64-bit version of ColdFusion 11.

Steps to Reproduce:

ColdFusion 10, Update 11, 32-bit
Set Windows Task for a reboot (shutdown -r -f -t 60)

-or-

Set Windows Task for Net-Stop, and Net-Start (scheduled for 15 minutes after the "stop" to give it time)

Actual Result:
Service will not actually be started.

Expected Result:
Service is started

Any Workarounds:
Manually start the service

Comments:

Justin, I am unable to reproduce the issue with CF10 Update11 (32-bit) on Windows Server 2008 R2. The CF application service starts up automatically after a windows after a scheduled windows task recycles the host machine. Can you verify, if anything is recorded in the logs. Check the coldfusion-out.log or server.log at <cf_root>\cfusion\logs for any activity. Also, please check the windows eventviewer for any reported errors. Can you also confirm if CF is set to start automatically in the services applet and the user account it running under.

Closing this, since this is not reproducible and we haven't heard back from the reporter. We can revisit this if more info is made available or others experience a similar issue.
