<cfspreadsheet> provides for the ability to row & column limit what's read in from the XLS. spreadsheetRead() does not offer the equivalent, and I can see no way of effecting this functionality in CFScript code.
No CFML functionality should be implemented via tags only, so I consider this a bug.
