Problem:
Clean install of ColdFusion 9 64-bit. on a new Windows 7 64-bit machine. The ColdFusion 64-bit installation program works with no problems. (The ODBC server and agent are not installed yet.) The initial Configuration Wizard runs with no problem. (The ODBC server and agent are installed, and started.) The ColdFusion Administor is run. Datasources using ODBC are defined. Webpages using those defined ODBC datasources work with no problem.Machine is rebooted. The ColdFusion ODBC server and agent, will NOT start. Windows reports them as starting and stopping immediately. No error messages are logged anywhere. This has been submitted as bug about 4 times, 77679, 80418, 82913, 82489, and closed each time with no information that I can find on how it was resolved. 80418 matches my experience except I'm NOT using Access, but another ODBC database.I have reinstalled ColdFusion 9 64-bit 4 times now on this computer... and after I reboot, I will have to reinstall it again in order to use the ODBC services.I tried the 9.0.1 update... that had NO effect.
Method:
Windows 7 64-bit. ColdFusion 64-bit. Install. Reboot. Look at your services and you'll find the ColdFusion ODBC server and agent NOT STARTED. Try to start them, and they won't. See the summary above for more details.Any Adobe staff that wants to experience this, just contact me, and I'll Webex you to my computer so you can experience it yourself.
Result:
No error messages show in ColdFusion logs.ODBC server:"The ColdFusion 9 ODBC server service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."ODBC agent:"The ColdFusion 9 ODBC agent service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."
