Problem:

Using cfspreadsheet to open a 5 MB XLS file, the first time it works fine in about 30 seconds.  Subsequent times, I get error messages.  Sometimes jrun.exe even locks so bad I have to reboot the server.
Method:

<cfspreadsheet action="read" src="c:\web\abcdef.com\temp\sales.xls" name="salesIn">This ONE tag will cause the behavior.  The XLS it is referencing is 4,455KB created by Office 2007, saved in XLSM format.
Result:

"500 - Internal server error. "   or   "The service is unavailable."   or  jrun.exe just becomes completely unresponsive.
