Problem Description:
I tried updating my test systems today Update 12 won’t install. The CFAdmin Update page goes through the motions to download and install. The updater will stop all CF 11 related services, it will restart all CF 11 related services EXCEPT the main CFUSION instance.

Developer Edition CF11 with Update 11. Windows 7 and Windows 10. Those are the only two I’ve tried so far. CF is running as the Local System account on both.

The Update 12 jar file downloads. It unpacks. The backup folder to rollback the update gets created in the wrong location. Now its created at .\coldfusion11\hf-updates\ instead of at .\coldfusion11\[instance name]\hf-updates\. The ever critical updates.xml file never get updated. With two instances running the CFUSION instance will be stopped and never restarted. The second instance never gets stopped. The install log shows the jar unpacked to the temp location, but the files are never copied to the ColdFusion folder.

Same exact behavior on two different systems

Comments:

I've verified the exact same behavior on macOS 10.12.4. The folder for the backups to rollback the update is also in the same wrong location. /Applications/ColdFusion11/hf-updates/ instead of /Applications/ColdFusion11/[instance name]/hf-updates/. The update never completes. The updated files never get copied to the ColdFusion11/[instance name] locations. I've attached the install log.

The Java version on all three systems was the bundled Java version for CF11, Java 1.8.0_25.

I tried again on Windows 10 with the latest Java JDK 1.8.0_131. Same results. Install failed to complete at the same point. I've attached that install log too.

It appears Adobe made change(s) to the installer? "We made a small change in the updates.xml file. Update installation from the administrator must work as expected. Could you please confirm this?” ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here's my results after retrying the installs. macOS: Failed same as before Win7: "Failed" differently, but worked. The install appears to have put the install and uninstall files in the correct location. All CF11 services were stopped and eventually restarted. The Progress Information window in the CFAdmin never updated. Even after 15 minutes. I manually refreshed the CFAdmin page, logged back in and the update confirms it was installed. Win10: "Failed" differently, but worked. The install appears to have put the install and uninstall files in the correct location. All CF11 services were stopped and eventually restarted. The Progress Information window in the CFAdmin never updated. Even after 15 minutes. I manually refreshed the CFAdmin page, logged back in and the update confirms it was installed.

FYI: I made sure that on each install re-try I made sure do download the updated jar file.

I decided that I should test on Linux too. I setup a Linux VM instance locally and installed CF11 developer edition. I created a second CF11 instance. Then I updated to Update 11. That worked. Then I tried Update 12 and that failed in the exact same way the Update 12 install has been failing on macOS and previously on Windows. Regards, Wil
