For those who may apply the prerelease updates, beware that I have found that (even with the default URL restored) we are NOT notified in the Admin that a new *final* release is ready.

I just tested it with my current implementation of CF 11 prerelease update 4, which I'd not yet removed. I am not being told of this final release of update 4. Again, I have indeed used the "restore default url" option and clicked the "check for updates" feature.

It's bad enough that people may forget to use the "restore default URL" feature, in which case they'd not hear of the final release (I suppose).

But I really would hope that if the URL WAS restored to the original, the update feature WOULD tell us that there IS a new final (by detecting that it's different than the prerelease one currently installed).

I recommend just taking Lucee's lead and having an array of channels to select from on the update config: Stable, BER, etc. We shouldn't need to fart-arse around "restoring URLs". All releases should be available on BER, and only prod-ready releases on the stable channel.

Sure, Adam. That's indeed a noble long-term goal and I hope they'll consider it. But in the near term, my goal was just to get it to not hide from folks a final release when they are still on the pre-release. That just seems rife with potential for problems (but I agree that there's more about the current handling of prereleases that has potential for problems). And hey, Ray, am I just old or blind in failing the little ascii "Rorschach test" there in your vote there? :-) Anyway, thanks to you both for the votes and anything you can do to raise awareness (thanks for the tweet already, Adam.)

It's not a long-term goal, it's a NOW goal. It's great that Adobe are attempting to give us frequent releases at last (even if u3 was buggered and u4 didn't fix much), but without the ability to easily update - and downgrade - between releases, it's a lot more awkward to work with, and result in far fewer people testing the pre-releases. If Adobe had a robust update system we could trust - it would be much easier for developers to quickly test u5 during quiet periods, without having to worry they'll be stuck debugging new bugs whilst simultaneously trying to get work finished for a sprint demo / product release.

I agree that proper stable and bleeding-edge (aka "unstable") release channels need to be available (the sooner the better), and that stable releases should be pushed on the unstable channel too... AND that a stable release IS NOT the same release as an unstable patch -- even if you change nothing. Create a new tag and a new build, calling it stable.

The actual release management protocol Adobe is using so far with updaters is pitiful. Randomly updating the bits that are available, not clearly labeling each new patch, forcing users who actually want to help test stuff to mess about with URLs -- and then getting stung by not being notified about an actual stable release of the updater as a thank you? C'mon Adobe, where is your professionalism. This is software management 101.

So Adobe, you closed this and marked it as fixed. Mind explaining what that fix is, since it's likely to be mostly process and not so much a code change?

And to add to Adam's question, can you please update the "fixed in build" on the right, so we know when the fix will appear to us as users? And rather than some cryptic 5 digit number, could you say if it's to be the next update due for CF11, which as of this writing would be update 7? Thanks.
