When creating a key binding with "inserting text" I can use the macro "$${cp}" to control the "caret position" in the inserted text. Please add an additional macro for keeping selected text. This is already possible with built-in key bindings such as cfdump where I can have text selected when I press the keys and the selected portion is wrapped. Right now, any selected text is simply erased.
Here's an example I'd use right now if it worked (using "st" for selected text):
