Adobe is behind when it comes to officially supporting Docker, so clearly Adobe needs to be a part of this movement. Atlassian just released BitBucket Pipelines to help developers run builds and deploy code, but it relies upon Docker Images to take advantage.

I put this ticket in for ColdFusion 10, but there should be official Adobe Docker Images for ColdFusion 10, 11, and 2016 on Linux and Windows. Yes, Windows 10/Server 2016, because Windows Containers and Azure Containers for Docker are available in the Windows Server 2016 Technical Preview 4, due for release in 2016. Windows 10 will have Windows Containers after the huge Summer Update 2016.

The Platforms drop-box for this bugbase form is grossly out of date, and should be updated. It doesn't have Windows 8/8.1, 10, or Server 2012 R2, and the MacOS versions are 4 or 5 versions behind too.

I had a conversation with the Adobe team about this earlier this year. They said they had no interest in supporting it and to open a feature enhancement. This pretty much cemented my decision to move away from CF and move to Go. Your'e seriously behind Adobe.

Imagine deploying a byte-for-byte replica from your development machine to production. Imagine never again saying, "I can't replicate that here...". Imagine never crossing your fingers while applying a ColdFusion hotfix to a production server. Imagine development sucking a whole lot less. That is what Docker brings. Ignore it at the peril of the language. I already have CF10 and 11 Docker images that I build and develop against. We'll be going into production with them soon.

Having official docker images for CF would be a huge time saver for developers. It will also allow us to unify our dev/test/production environments. This is a must have for any platform in the modern age.

We are in the process of building a Docker image for ColdFusion and would like to understand the biggest use-cases for a Docker image. Development or Production. Defaulting the image to developer / secure profile is a call we need to take. Any other inputs would also really help us get the most useful image out.

You should be able to use configuration files outside of the container (mapped volume) to be able to set if it is development or secure profile in my opinion. Default to secure profile would probably be best so its secure by default

Docker on Windows has been around for a while now, and is also well capable of running Linux based containers. We are working on a Linux based ColdFusion Docker image, and would like to understand if there is a real need for Windows based images. Any input is appreciated.

Aaron, Like I said before, Linux containers can be run on distributions of Windows that Docker supports.
