Please allow CF Standard to take advantage of 64 bit operating system.  

Multi core processors are easy to come by in the consumer market these days and there's plenty of open source 64 bit operating system (CENTOS) that can take advantage of it.

+1 64-bit is not "enterprise" anymore, it's becoming "standard". so it should be available to the Standard edition as well!

+1 vote. I was initially cool to this suggestion, but reading the discussion, I think the increasing ubiquity (if that's not an oxymoron) of 64-bit platforms makes this closer to a necessity than something that's value-added.

The decision not to support 64 bit for Standard is not in keeping with what differentiates Standard and Enterprise... which is the features provided by the product, not the supported list of JVMs. Never before has the list of JVMs been different between the 2. This is already causing pain in and angst from the userbase. It's also going to be harder and harder to maintain as, for example, Apple ships OS X 10.5 with a 64-bit Apache. Without 64-bit CF Standard you've just crushed a sizable portion of your developer base.

Many sites I release for clients aren't complicated enough to require CF enterprise features, however the resource limitations that are in the 32-bit version of CF Standard often limit the growth of many projects. Having to defend CF and it's costs only makes it more difficult when something like this is offered in competitor products for free. Please consider releasing a 64-bit CF standard version.

Coldfusion needs full native 64 bit support on all supported editions and platforms. The reason is to be able to take advantage of larger heaps. 64 bit support will sell more upgrades than ORM or converting all tags to script.

Great idea! Just support of larger address spaces would be great for those of us running Windows OSes on servers that are capabile of running a 64-bit version of Windows.

It's not possible to buy a 32-bit Apple machine - laptop, desktop or server - so it really makes no sense to limit Standard Edition to 32-bit.

it does come down to costs. I can buy a 1U dual 2.4 Ghz 64Bit CPU server for about $200. (I've bought two servers at that price so far last year.) Then install CENTOS 64bit version with 64bit Apache. Why with the extra speed of a 64bit system and extra memory addressing would I want to slow it down to 32bit just to run the version of Coldfusion I can afford at the time? Next is upgrade path. Say my small company could only afford to buy the standard edition (Which is ten times more costly than the server I bought). Later if I'm making money I may want to upgrade. Your suggested upgrade path is that I shut it all down reinstall everything from the ground up just to upgrade to 64bit Coldfusion Enterprise. That is not making your customers happy. It certainly isn't making me happy. The upgrade path from standard to enterprise on 64 bit should be as simple as adding a new Licensing Number.
