Problem:

If there are failures on onServerStart(), those failures aren't shown anywhere. The code fails silently. It would be nice to see this error listed in the J2EE container's startup log.

+1 vote. It's gotta be logged somewhere, but why in a JRun log rather than CF's server.log? If the server start-up was aborted by a failed event handler, then I'd agree a JRun log would be the best place. Now: I've not tested, but given Sean says it's hard to identify these failures, I'm guessing they don't stop the server starting... because that's make them pretty easy to identify ;-) -- Adam

Need to be able to know when problems occur. Agree that onServerStart() should also have its errors logged.

Without this change, it's pretty much impossible to identify and debug onServerStart() failures so I think this is essential.
