Installing CF 10 for the first time. I uncheck the "start ColdFusion on system init" option and walk through the rest of the install. After the "Server Updates" dialog box, the installer tells me that it needs my password to set up "stat on system init" even though I elected not to.

I verified the same and I did unchecked the option "Start ColdFusion on system init" in subcomponent installation screen, but I did not find any screen asking to enter my credentials after server updates. I even tried in the reverse order, If I select the "Start ColdFusion on system init" I was gettng the screen asking to ente the credentials. Can you please try once again and let us know whether are you facing this issue again. If yes, please let us know the steps you are following. (Comment added from ex-user id:vkonatal)

It comes even for non-default server apart from 'start on system init' option selection.
