The CGI scope is being reset by websocket handler call thus breaking any code that runs after wspublish that is relying on the cgi scope.

+1, CGI variables are important. WebSocket handler should not break CGI.

Looks like the request scope is still lost as soon as you fall out of any function calling wspublish()
