Problem Description: Local Documentation is completely missing.

Steps to Reproduce: Install ColdFusion 10, leave 'Documentation' option checked, complete installation

Actual Result: Local documentation is completely missing.  I looked in the cfroot/wwwroot/ folder, in my own apache docroot folder, it was nowhere to be found.  Primarily I looked for the folder called 'cfdocs', I could not find it anywhere.  Further, I installed CF 10 for Mac, Linux and Windows and NONE of them contained the cfdocs folder after installation, but all had the option (which I chose) to install documentation.

Expected Result: CFDocs folder should be installed

I'm not switching to CF 10 unless/until this is corrected. I must have CFDOCS. My dev system is isolated from the internet. Thankfully, I have this system which would allow me to use the online help. If I did not have this sytem, though, the online docs would be useless. Adobe needs to reconsider putting the docs back in the install.

Local documentation is no longer available as part of the installation. You can access the documentation online at http://helpx.adobe.com/coldfusion.html.

But hang on... there's an option to install it in the installer. Are you sure you're not just making excuses? It seems an odd thing to suddenly decide to not ship the docs, when you always have in the past. At the very least there's still a bug here because the installer should not offer to install something that you don't offer as an install option?! -- Adam

+1. No CFDOCS! What if I have no connection? We don't all live or work in downtown NYC. I often work in locations where I have either no connection or a very slow connection. Local CFDocs was quick, well structured and easy to navigate, I could find an answer in a few seconds. Not including the CFDocs is a huge mistake. And, yes I know I can download the PDF but really?!? As a CF user since 1998 this is the first time I have seriously thought of jumping ship (and I surprised myself over the triviality of the issue that made me want to jump!). Come on Adobe.

Browsing HTML pages is much easier than browsing a PDF document. The ColdFusion Team should henceforth offer the option of downloading the ColdFusion documentation as a package consisting of 'Local HTML' pages and a search-applet. It has the advantage that you can conveniently browse and search the docs offline. For example, see the 'Local HTML' docs for CF MX7.

Local documentation is vital. That is so for every programming language. Having documentation at hand speeds up coding by at least a factor of 2.

+99999 Whether or not you like to use them is irrelevant and sujective. The point here is a polished product SHOULD include the docs and in this instance the installer even asks if you like them installed so: a) VERY unprofessional of Adobe CF QA team to miss this. I noticed this right away. Its this type of sloppy work that continues to drive people away from CF, including me :-( The responses from Adobe staffers are both uncaring and not getting the point. Your installer says it will do something it does not so please treat us with a bit of respect when you're wearing pie in the face for god's sake. CFDocs was ALWAYS part of a CF installation so this is a CHANGE from the norm that is not explained or mentioned and the installer contains a BUG in asking for it. Plus, you guys host the damn things online. Is it that hard to ZIP that folder on your web servers up and place it into the installer? We're up to Update 5 already and nothing addressed yet and the installer still the same. This may look like some small oversight on your parts but its just plain unprofessional and shows a complete lack of love and care for the product and the Adobe brand as a whole! </end rant and disappointment at attitudes>

Local documentation with normal CF install is much better than online reference because - Local documentation have better searching option than online and pdf. - We don't need internet access always to access the documentation

FYI, this and numerous other issues with Coldfusion are making me on a daily basis look more and more at php. I think the 8 licenses for Coldfusion 10 are likely my last... You guys should just add the documentation back in, especially because I'm sure it was not a technical reason but some middle-level manager with no real understanding who made this decision..

Totally agree. The PDF is not a decent solution in my opinion. A local copy of the documentation is fast, and always available. Plus you're completely wasting our time by even having the option in the installer.

There is a example of code on page 112 of the coldfusion_10_cfmlref.pdf that will not run because it calls for " C:\ColdFusion9\wwwroot\cfdocs\dochome.htm" that is not provided: "This example shows the use of cfcontent to return the contents of the CF Documentation page dynamically to the browser. You might need to change the path and/or drive letter depending on how ColdFusion is installed on your system. ... "

I note this is "fixed". Was the fix to re-include the docs in the CF install, or just to remove the option from the installation UI? I hope you're putting the docs back in the install. It would be disappointing if that's not the case. -- Adam

This is not fixed but withdrawn and it has been marked as 'As Designed'. The documentation will only be available online now and is wiki based which makes it easier for the community to contribute to. We are not going to include it in the product.

Rupesh, that's just plain awful. Half my dev work is done offline and the PDF's just don't cut it. Shame.

Local documentation is faster and more convenient than accessing the Adode hosted docs.
