Problem Description:
We randomly have our scheduled tasks disappear and sometimes reappear on their own. This happens at server restarts, but also seemingly randomly throughout the day as well. We do backup this system using a product named StorageCraft that uses volume shadow copies to make backups, but are unsure if that would cause this issue to occur. The most recent occurrence was today. At our 7am backup, our scheduled processes list was normal and the neo-cron.xml file was 106 KB and then by the 9am backup, the file had shrunk to 69kb. Additionally, as we watched the server live, a task that had been missing and was not in the xml file somehow reappeared on its own as well.

We are obviously very concerned with this behavior as we have not previously noticed this occurring in the past and the fact that we have tasks disappearing is of significant concern.

Hi Marc, Is this disappear & reappear happening for a specific task or for any random tasks? It would be great if you can send us your neo-cron.xml file so that we can have a repro at our end . You can either attach the file on this bug or email it to me at suchsing@adobe.com. Thanks for reporting! Thanks, Suchika

I apologize for not responding back in January, I did not see/receive an alert about the update added to this ticket. The tasks that disappear are at random and behind the scenes the server appears to still be aware of the tasks as at the next iteration of the task running, it reappears in the file. It's as if the tasks are loaded in memory, but the XML configuration file seems to lose the information so that it does not show up in the CFAdmin when reviewing the list of active tasks. Some of our tasks do not run often or are paused and if we happen to have to restart our server, that's when they get "lost" forever as they aren't actually in the XML file and upon restart the knowledge of it being in memory also gets lost as well. This behavior didn't start happening until we updated our server to the enterprise version either, while running in standard version, we had never seen this occur. As an interim measure, we created a process to create a backup of our neo-cron.xml file on a regular basis and then once it detects that the running file is smaller than the backup, it sends us an alert email telling us something has gone wrong with the scheduled tasks file. We then know the next time we have to restart our CF server, we need to restore our backup file. It is however completely random when this "bug" appears as well, sometimes it can be a few days, sometimes within hours of a restart. I would prefer not to upload our XML file as it does have private information with how some of our tasks are named/etc. I'm not sure how we can overcome that issue.

Hey Marc , Can you mask the sensitive information in your neo-cron.xml and send us ? How many tasks in total do you have ? You can email the the neo-cron.xml to suchsing@adobe.com. We will not be able to resolve your issue if we do not have enough information and would be forced to close the ticket. Thanks, Suchika

Hey Marc, A gentle reminder , it would be great if you could send your masked neo-cron.xml and give us a little description of your application environment. Thanks, Suchika
