I tried with the json format style, however cfchart style attribute doesn't recognise the file path. it only works when the file placed locally.

Unless I am mistaken, the external style file has to be a .TXT file with json formatted text. Unless CF is doing the conversion, ZingCharts does not support XML.

The style file is .txt and in json format created by xmltojson.bat file provided by Adobe. error - coldfusion.tagext.io.ChartTag$UnknownStyleFileException: Could not locate the style file /xxx/xxx/xxx/chart_style.txt. null

Are you trying to give an absolute path? You can use either the chartstyledirectory property in Application.cfc and give just the name of the style file or give a path relative to the cfm. Documentation for chartstyledirectory is at https://wikidocs.adobe.com/wiki/display/coldfusionen/Application+variables

No, we are not using absolute path and we still have application.cfm not cfc. SO I am wondering if the property chartstyledirectory will help ! Thanks

In that case you can give a path relative to the current cfm.
