Charlie Arehart ColdFusion licensing for Docker and other containers Did you know there are CF Docker images? Have you wondered what were the licensing implications for using them? The post ColdFusion licensing for Docker and other containers appeared first on ColdFusion. Blog
Charlie Arehart I realize this is old, but in case others come upon this later, I'm pretty sure Gordon's Nov 2018 comment here was referring here to when there was no Docker image environment variable for passing in a CF license key/serial number. That was subsequently resolved, and there is indeed

Sure, on that, Legorol.  FWIW, there are also the Adobe CF Docker images that can help with such automated deployment already (available for CF2016 and CF2018). But I realize that some will prefer to manually deploy via an automated install INSTEAD of using the docker images, so

yesterday (and previously).

And fwiw, I will be doing a Dev week talk on Friday on getting started with the cf docker images. It’s a revision and expansion of one I did at cf summit 2019, available online.

Note also the recent post here from Dave Byers, 2nd in a series on his take on getting

sucking a whole lot less. That is what Docker brings. Ignore it at the peril of the language. I already have CF10 and 11 Docker images that I build and develop against. We'll be going into production with them soon.

Charlie Arehart Great, thanks. Having these as soon as possible can help those who use them to test the updates against their app. For those not yet considering that as an option, I will be doing a talk at CF Summit in Oct on the topic of getting started with the Adobe CF docker images. (I plan
that.

Perhaps more interesting, I can confirm that in the Docker images for CF 2018, even back to the very first release, the moono folder DOES have the files in there, which may suggest that this is a Windows-only problem. I don't have ready access to my machine with a Linux install of CF

Bradley Wood The last I heard, the Docker images were held up on some internal issues related to licensing. If you need to deploy Adobe ColdFusion on Docker today, check out the Ortus Docker image which has been out for quite a while and supports all versions of CF. https://hub.docker.com/r/ortussolutions/commandbox/
Bradley Wood Doug, if you want to use a containerized version of the 2018 beta, you can do so right now using the Ortus Docker images. They are powered by CommandBox, and therefore can start any CF engine/version and also come with CFConfig to manage all your config settings without needing
Charlie Arehart It doesn't seem anyone ever came back and updated this discussion. You can indeed now pass in the CF license key as an environment variable. 2608228 CF-4160098 Immanuel N. Docker on Windows has been around for a while now, and is also well capable of running Linux based containers. We are working on a Linux based ColdFusion Docker image, and would like to understand if there is a real need for Windows based images. Any input

not want to go that far. (Then again, with the available docker-images/">Adobe CF Docker images, you could test that pretty easily without impacting your current CF2018, if you are familiar with Docker.)
